Meeting the Moment
Dear friends,
Earlier this year, our board named Meeting the Moment as a core strategic priority- positioning Unidos to respond to urgent needs with agility, compassion, and strategic collaboration. In 2025, that moment is unmistakable. For many of our Latine immigrant neighbors and their families, this is a season of strain, trust stretched thin, and too often, fear. But our neighbors are not alone. Whatever our community walks through, Unidos walks through it too. Here’s how we’re meeting the moment right now:
Know Your Rights workshops that equip people with knowledge.
Monthly coordination of service providers, churches, and community groups to advance a shared, Cohesive Plan for Immigration Services in South OC.
Neighborhood gatherings that offer mutual care.
Family preparedness legal clinics so households have essential documents in place.
Rapid response at the scene of immigration enforcement to verify activity and report accurate updates back to the community.
Mobile Passport services for U.S. citizen children- removing barriers so families can move safely when needed.
School advocacy for clear communication and staff training on district policy and student protections.
A go-at-your-own-pace curriculum that moves people from awareness to being an ally.
Progress toward DOJ Recognition so Unidos can provide nonprofit immigration legal services in-house.
This is what love looks like in this moment: residents, partners, donors, pray-ers, and volunteers linked arm-in-arm for dignity and safety.
With gratitude,
Heather Chapman
