When Falling Behind Feels Bigger Than One Assignment

Jocelyn used to shrink from word problems and reading out loud. By the time she got home from school, the stack of work in her backpack felt less like a list and more like a wall. At Unidos, that started to change when a volunteer sat beside her week after week, reading directions together, breaking big questions into smaller steps, and practicing the hard words before she had to say them in class.

This year at Unidos, Jocelyn’s year adds up to:

  • 68 programs, workshops, and events she’s shown up for

  • Over 120 hours of participation

  • 35+ hours of community service completed through Unidos

  • 40 hours of Tuesday Study Hour and homework support available to her

  • 1 report card with stronger grades this semester than the last

Jocelyn is not the only student who has felt that wall of work. All year, kids have been carrying the same mix of worry, work, and hope through our front door.

At Casa Unidos, they don’t have to face that alone.

As we plan for 2026, we’re working toward a goal of $125,000 through our Together for Their Tomorrow campaign so we can keep showing up like this for students. A year-end gift from you helps make sure that when the next student sits down at our table with that same wall of work, there’s still someone there to sit beside them.
