Pouring back into the same halls that shaped her
Last night, Marco Forster Middle School held its 8th Grade Award Ceremony.
Kids like Josimar, Mati, and Yeralda, who showed up to homework club, stayed for study hours, and kept coming back, were recognized last night for their commitment to their education.
And beside them, their families. Parents who helped with homework after long days, made sure their kids were fed, and still made time to connect with Marco Forster staff at Casa Unidos. Those same parents were in that crowd last night watching their children be celebrated.
Maritza, our Youth Director, lives in this neighborhood and has walked alongside many of these students for years. When asked what she hopes these students carry forward, she replied:
"I hope they carry forward their love for people, so they continue impacting and changing their community. I hope they keep leading the younger generations with love, service, and resilience."
Moments like these also remind me of why the people around the table matter. Cindy, our newly appointed board member, grew up in this neighborhood, sat in these same classrooms, and now teaches at Marco Forster, pouring back into the same halls that shaped her. Having her voice at the table as we watched these kids be celebrated felt like its own kind of full circle.
Grateful doesn't even begin to cover it. To watch this community show up for its kids, night after night, year after year, reminds me that we are part of something much bigger than ourselves.
